Along with being a UL 508A certified control panel fabricator, Wastech is also a UL 698A certified fabricator. UL 698A applies to intrinsically safe control panels. Intrinsically safe control panels are used to control processes that are in hazardous classified areas containing flammable materials such as gases and vapors, where the control panel is installed outside of that classified area. By using such components as intrinsically safe barriers between the process and the control panel, you can ensure that no electrical sparks will be generated near the process where flames may ignite.

If the control system must be installed within the classified area, then an explosion proof panel is needed. Intrinsically safe panels are usually preferred over explosion proof panels since they’re much easier to install and very economical.
